Co, GA. He married SARAH
M.
??
Abt. 1835 in Washington Co, GA. She was born Abt. 1820 in Washington Co, GA.
Notes for J OHN
JOINER:
In 1840 John is married and has 2 sons under 5. Living next door to father
Malachi.
Have not found John after 1840. In 1850 there's a Sarah Joiner age 30 who is
a widow. John is the only Joiner son I have not found after 1840 so I think this
is his widow. This Sarah does have sons born in 1837 and 1838 - 0/5 in 1840.
John Probably died about 1845.
Notes for S ARAH

??:
1850 - Washington Co, GA. Sarah Joiner age - widow. Children: Augustus 13,
Thomas 12, Mary Ann 10, Sarah Ann 9, Green 7. If this is John's widow he
probably died about 1843.
1860 Washington Co, GA. Sarah M. age 38 is living with Malachi A. Joiner age
23 and his wife Susan age 23. Also Jesse G. Joiner age 13. I think this is
John's widow, Sarah and youngest son Green (Jesse Green).
1870 Washington Co, GA. Sarah M. listed as age 70 ( I believe in error-should
be 50). She is living with Mary A. (27) and Isaac L. (36) Tanner. Children in HH:
Vincent F. Tanner 3, Sarah F. Tanner 6/12, John M. Lawton 12, Owen C. Lawton10,
Mary J. Lawton 8. I think this Mary A. is daughter to Sarah Joiner. I think she
married a Lawton, had three children and now married to Isaac Tanner. Can not
find Lawtons in 1860.
1880 Washington Co, GA. Sarah M. age 63, mother living with M. A. Joiner age

believe this does not include children from Mary's first marriage.
1910 Washington Co, GA. Isaac S. Tanner 78, Mary 64. A second marriage
for both. Looks like they have been married 28 years - should be 45. She has
had 6 children with 5 living. Daughter Annie May is living with them with
her husband Solomon Page. Annie May 24, Solomon 31, Luther R. 2/12. Annie

ELMIRA
JOINER:
Elmira is listed on the 1840, 1850, and 1860 census records for Washington
Co, GA.
Rebecca Elmira Joiner was born in Washington county, GA in 1815. She married
in 1835 at the age of 20 yrs old. She died in 1864 after living her entire life
in Washington Co, Ga.
Notes for JOSEPH
DUTY
SMITH:
Joseph is listed on census records for Washington Co, GA for 1840 through
1870.
Joseph D. Smith was born in 1813 in Washington Co, Ga. He married Rebecca
Elmira Joiner in 1835. Elmira died in 1864 and he married Sophie (Whidden)
Smith, widow of Daniel C. Smith. To the marriage she brought her two daughters,
Mary E. and Emma T. Sophie and Joseph had one son, Ednar Columbus born in 1866.

Some believe that Joseph married a third time to Mary Vaughn. In 1880 he was
still living with Sohpie and since he is 67 yrs. old in 1880 and he died in 1887
I think it is unlikely that he married again.

    Notes for THOMAS
    IVY
    SMITH:

Thomas Ivey Smith was born April 20, 1860 in Washington County, Georgia.
He lived there until after his marriage to Ceniann Permelia Boatwright and
then moved to Emanuel County. He farmed in Emanuel County until his death.
He is listed on the 1930 Census living with his son, Devoe, in Highlands
County Florida. He then returned to Emanuel County, Ga. where he died in
    November of that year.
C.P. and T.I. Smith bought 60 acres (more or less) from U.m. and E.L.
Durden for $1000.00 Oct. 26, 1905. This land is adjoining land owned by
    C.P.Smith and Jane Barwick.
Ceniann died in 1917 and it is believed that Thomas married again in 1919
but no record has been found. He did not have a wife on the 1920 census
    record.
    Notes for C ENIANN
    PERMELIA
    BOATWRIGHT:

Ceniann Permelia Boatwright was born in Washington county, Ga. By the
1860 Census the family had moved to Laurens county where she is listed as 4
yrs. old. On the 1870 census she is listed as Susan A., 14 yrs. old. The age
is right and there was no Susan listed on 1860 census. The census taker
probably heard Susan Ann instead of Ceniann.
Her father died in the Civil War and her mother died in 1880. In 1880 she
married Thomas Ivey Smith. On the 1900 and 1910 census she is listed with
her husband and children in Emanuel county, Ga., Adrian.

Ceniann bought one acre of land for $5.00 from Jane Barwick Jul 23, 1903.
C.P. and T.I. Smith bought 60 acres (more or less) from U.m. and E.L.
Durden for $1000.00 Oct. 26, 1905. This land is adjoining land owned by
    C.P.Smith and Jane Barwick.
Devoe Smith was administrator for Ceniann Smith's estate. Inventory
includes half interest in 60 acres (more or less). This land is adjoining
land owned by Thomas I. and Ceniann Smith. (This is probably 1/2 interest in
60 acres owned jointly by Ceniann and Jane Barwick.)
Ceniann died in 1917 and is buried at Kea's Church Cemetary.

JOINER:
Rachel married James T. Boatwright in Washington
Co, GA and moved to Laurens Co, GA before 1860 where she is listed on the 1860
and 1870 census records.
Rachel Joiner was born in 1825 in Washington county, Georgia. She lived with
her parents until 1850 when she married James Boatwright. They were planters and
she took over the farm when James left to fight in the Civil War. She received
assistance for wives of service men from the town of Dublin in 1861 and 1862.

Rachel was sister to Elmira Joiner who married Joseph D. Smith. They were
parents to Thomas I. Smith who married Rachel's daughter Ceniann.
We could not find Rachel in 1880 and she may have died. But, in 1880 there's
a Rachel Boutewright living in Worth Co, GA. She is 53 and has a daughter Martha
J. age 25 and son, Francis age 24 with her. They are living in the HH of Mary

Infantry was originally known as the 2nd Regiment, Georgia State Troops (Col.
Barkuloo). It was mustered into the service of the Confederate States in May,
1862, as Colonel Barkuloo's Regiment and subsequently became the 54th Regiment
Georgia Infantry. Early in 1863 this designation was changed to 57the Regiment

    Notes for Ceniann Permelia

    Notes for T HOMAS
    IVY
Ceniann died in 1917 and it is believed that Thomas married again in 1919
but no record has been found. He did not have a wife on the 1920 census
    record.

The Sandersville Herald - A Sad Tragedy July 12 1894
On Tuesday morning, Mr. Jesse G. Joiner was shot and killed by his son-in-law
Mr. W.J. Bush. Mr Bush was living on lands leased from Mr. Joiner, and was at
work to prevent his hogs from sleeping under an out house when Mr. Joiner came
up and told him he was going to tear the house down that day. Mr. Bush told him
to go off, he didn't want any trouble with him. But Mr. Bush and his son, the
only witness say that Mr. Joiner walked on towards Mr. Bush with his hand in his
pocket, when Mr. Bush took his gun and shot him. Mr. Bush came to Sandersville
in the afternoon and surrendered himself to Sheriff Wall. Coroner Lowe held an
inquest, but as the law declares an inquest unnecessary when there is a witness
to a crime. The papers were not regarded by Judge Newman as legal. The jury
however after their inquest declared the crime to be voluntary manslaughter. Bad
feelings had existed between the parties for some time. A few weeks ago Mr.
Joiner shot at Mr. Bush, and wounded his daughter Mr. Bush's wife. A commitment
trial will probably be held soon.

Mr. Moses Joiner, a prominent citizen of the county, died on Friday night of
pneumonia and heart disease. He was a good man, honest and just in all his
dealings and worthy of the respect and esteem of all who knew him. He lived all
his life at the old home place where his father had lived before him, and died
as quietly and peacefully as he had always lived. The sympathy of our whole town
is extended to his bereaved wife and daughter Miss Euphenia.
