Wife of R. A. Arnett, and daughter of Jas. H. & M. E. Veal. Born Handcock Co, GA. Came to her grandfather Wm. Miller of Chambers Co, AL 1848 and joined the Missionary Baptist Church 1849..

Notes for ARGANT ?:

The 1850 census for Chambers Co, AL lists the wife of William Miller as Margaret. In his will of 1853 he names her as Argant. The 1860 and 1870 census records of Chambers Co lists her as Argant.

1860 slave schedule. Argant Miller owned 6 slaves - Four females and two males.   Her husband left her two females and five males.

In 1870 Argant is age 84.  She is living with a black family - Mittie Patterson age 30, Cynthia 7, Cellia 5, Sallie 3, Ella 2, Alice 2/12.  Mittie b. GA.  All children b. AL.

Have not found Argant's parents or maiden name. The census records list her as being born in Georgia. In 1830 she is with her husband and five daughters in Hancock Co, GA.

(Speculation - William and Argant named a daughter Argant Bass and daughter, Amanda Spights named a son Bass. Could maiden name for Argant (Margaret) be Bass?).  There are several Bass' in Hancock Co, GA.  but can not verify.
