Excerpt from The life and times of James Martin Hamrick
"....I made a fine crop that year and sold my land early in 1861. I rented a farm and commenced to look out for another companion and was successful in meeting a nice lady, Miss Mary Brasher, near Carrollton. We soon became engaged and was to marry in May, but War Between the States caused a postponement...........

..............To commence life anew, that fall I went to school; and the next spring, 1863, I taught school and went to see the lady that I was engaged to and told her, as I was a cripple for life, it was with regret I would release her of our engagement, but she said she was willing to go through life with me. And so we were married the third Sunday in May by Rev. Nathan Smith...........

........That fall we moved to Villa Rica, and I and Dr. Brown opened up a grocery store and made money. In the month of May, 1864, my heart and home was saddened by the death of my wife..........."

1880 Census - Blount Co, AL - Dist 12. In 1880 youngest daughter, Nancy is still living with Henry and Martha Brasher and unmarried. 6. vii. WILLIAM H. BRASHER, b. 1858, Carroll Co, GA; d. Bef. 1900, Carroll Co, GA.

Generation No. 2

2. WILEY ANN I.6 BRASHER (HENRY W.5, JOHN P.4, THOMAS L.3, THOMAS2, WILLIAM B.1) was born Apr 1845 in Carroll Co, GA, and died Aft. 1920 in Marshall Co, AL. She married JAMES M. WILLIAMS Oct 12, 1864 in Carroll Co, GA. He was born Jan 28, 1841 in GA, and died Bet. 1880 - 1900.

Notes for WILEY ANN I. BRASHER:

The 1850 census record for Henry Brasher in Carroll Co, GA lists this child as Wiley (M) age 4. The 1860 census for Henry Brasher lists him as Milligan (M) age 15.

Carroll Co, GA. Marriage
Wiley Brasher J. M. Williams Oct 12, 1864

After searching in vain for Wiley Brasher married to a J. M. (or any Wiley Brasher after 1860) I decided to give up. Then I found Nancy Brasher, daughter of Henry W. and Martha Brasher, living with Elizer N. Long and wife, Mary F. as 'aunt' in 1900 in Marshall Co. AL. Also living with them in Wiley A. I. Williams, mother-in-law. Nancy and Wiley are still living with Elizer and Mary Long in 1910. Then I went back to the 1880 census record in Blount Co, AL and found James M. Williams living next door to Henry W. Brasher. Nancy is still living with Henry W. in 1880. James M. Williams is married to W. A. I. and has a daughter Mary F. age 14. From this I have determined that Wiley on the 1850 census should be female. Also on the 1860 census it should be Wiley Ann and female instead of Milligan, male. This makes Wiley and Nancy sisters and Wiley is Mary Long's mother and Nancy her aunt.

1880 Blount Co, AL. James M. Williams 39 (or 34), W. A. I. 35, Mary F. 14.

1900 Marshall Co, AL Elizer N. Long 44, Mary F. 34, Children: Henry L. 15, Beulah I. 11, Charles W. 8, James A. 5, Effie 8/12. Aunt - Nancy E. Brasher 46 - single. Mother-in-law, Wiley A. I. Williams 55 - widow.

1910 Marshall Co, AL. Elizer N. Long 53, Mary F. 43, Children: Luther 25, Charles 18, James A. 15, Effie M. 10, Homer N. 4, Beulah Gamble 21 - widow. Mother-in-law, Wiley A. Williams 64 - widow. Aunt, Nancy Brasher 57 - single.

1920 Marshall Co, AL. Newton Long 63 - widow, Arthur (James) 25, Homer 14. Wiley Ann Williams 74 widow, Mother (should be mother-in-law).

On the 1900 and 1910 census Wiley said she had 4 children with 1 living. I have not found them on the 1870 census and do not have names for the 3 children who died. Mary F. Long is the only child I found.

Child of WILEY BRASHER and JAMES WILLIAMS is:

i. MARY F.7 WILLIAMS, b. Dec 4, 1865, Carroll Co, GA; d. Bet. 1910 - 1920, Marshall Co, AL; m. NEWTON ELIZER LONG, Aug 29, 1883, Marshall Co, AL; b. Dec 1855, GA; d. Feb 25, 1922, Marshall Co, AL.

Notes for NEWTON ELIZER LONG:

He is listed on the 1900 Census of Marshall Co Alabama living with his parents. He is 27 years old, born in Feb. 1873 and a widower.

He is listed on the 1910 Census of Marshall Co Alabama as head of household. He has been married less than a year and it is his 3rd marriage. (This is probably a mistake as no one who knew him seemed to know of a third marriage). He did marry Dora Stonicher in Dec. 1897 and she died a few months later in May 1898. In 1910 he is living with his wife Ida B. and stepdaughter Lillian who was 3 years old.

In 1927 or 1928 William H. Weir moved his family to Flintville, Tennessee (Lincoln county) because schools were free. In Alabama every child paid tuition and with a growing family it could be a problem.

He died April 25, 1940 of skin cancer. He is buried at Flintville Cemetery, Flintville, Tennessee.

Notes for IDA BEATRICE HAYNIE:

Ida B. Haynie is first mentioned in the 1900 census record of Alabama. She was living with her father John B. Haynie in Foxcreek district of Clay county. She was 12 years old, born in Feb. 1888.

Ida Haynie was only about 15 yrs. old when she and her brother George left her father in Clay County Alabama and went to Marshall Co to live near her sister Mattie who had married and left Clay County. Ida and George rented a small farm. She soon married Cisero Garrard and George married his sister Zacky.

In the 1910 Census record of Alabama she is living with her husband, William H. Weir in Marshall Co, Alabama. She is 22 years old, been married less than a year and has had one child. Her daughter, Lillian is listed as 3 years old and the stepdaughter of William Weir.

The Haynie Family Bible states that:
1. Cisero Garrard and Ida Haynie were married March 15, 1906. Lillian Alberta Garrard was born Dec. 30, 1906.
2. Cisero Garrard was born July 27, 1876 and died Nov. 20, 1907.
3. Ida Garrard married Willie Weir Sept. 21, 1909.
4. Ida B. Haynie was born Feb. 18, 1888.

During the late 40s or early 50s she had part of her stomach removed which had developed cancer. She suffered from diabetes and died of pancreatic cancer.
