George Haynie And Elizabeth Roddan

1.
G
EORGE8 HAYNIE (CHARLES7, JOHN6, STEPHEN5, WILLIAM4, JOHN3, JOHN I.2, JOHN1 HAYNEY) was born Mar 28, 1800 in Pendleton District / Anderson Co, SC, and died May 16, 1863 in Eulaton, AL - Calhoun Co. He married ELIZABETH A. RODDAN Feb 27, 1827 in Anderson Co, SC, daughter of ROBERT RODDAN and FAUSEY. She was born May 29, 1808 in SC, and died Oct 17, 1893 in AL.

Notes for GEORGE HAYNIE:

The Haynie Family Bible states that George Haynie was born March 26, 1800 and died March 12, 1863. He married Elizabeth A. in 1826.

Their children listed in the Bible are R. C. Haynie and M. G. Haynie. The rest are erased to make room for other information.

In her application for pension Elizabeth stated that her husband George Haynie served in Capt. John J. Picken's 4th regiment of South Carolina from Feb. 10, 1836 to 1st of May 1836. He served in the Indian Wars in Florida and was discharged in Jacksonville, Fl. She stated that George was 36 yrs. old and 5ft. 9 inches tall with dark eyes, black hair, and fair complexion.

Elizabeth stated that after George's discharge they lived in Anderson SC for 14 years. and then lived in Calhoun Co AL for 13 years when he died at Enlaton AL March 12, 1863. She stated that they had married Feb 27, 1827 at Anderson Co SC. (At that time marriage records were not required to be kept in SC).

Witnesses stated that George and Elizabeth Haynie moved to Calhoun Co Al from SC in 1850. That they had several children who were all born in SC before they moved to AL. No children were born in Alabama. (Actually Elijah N. was born in 1850 after the census was taken.)

1830 Anderson SC. page 135. Males (1) 0/5. (1) 20/30. Females (1) 0/5, (1) 20/30. The female 0/5 is unknown to us.

The 1850 Census lists S. L. 14 Female. She is listed on the 1840 Census as being between 0/5. There's no other reference to her. We always thought George had only one daughter, Amanda.

George Haynie's obituary ran in the Jacksonville Republican, May 16, 1963

"Died at the residence of J. W. Easley, in Calhoun County, Alabama, after a short illness of pneumonia fever, George Haynie. He was born in Anderson District, South Carolina March 25, 1807, was married February 27, 1827, to Elizabeth A. Roddam. He embraced religion in 1834 and joined the Baptist church in 1838, of which he remained faithful and pious member until the hour of his death, March 12, 1863. He moved to Alabama in 1850, and as proved to be one of her truest and most devoted citizens. He was an affectionate companion, a teacher parent, and as a neighbor he had the love and esteem of all who knew him. His course of life and conduct was marked by honesty and integrity. He was conscience of the approach of death when first attacked with disease. He possessed a spirit of recognition to the will of God, and during his illness professed his willingness to die, and said it was strange that anyone was afraid to die. He left a weeping wife, nine children and many friends to mourn his loss which was a sad one, although we feel that it results in his eternal glory. We deeply sympathize with his bereaved family, but death unavoidably comes our way....................."

Civil War Pension Application

J. B. Haynie served in Company F. of Walthall Batt.  He enlisted Nov 1, 1862 as a private at Talladega and was discharged May 24, 1865.

He received a pension for poverty and disability.
Remarks: Honorably discharged. Unable to make a living on account of disabilities.
Age 68 years. P. O. Delta, Alabama.

An Ellen Haynie filed for a pension based on John's service in 1910. She said she was his widow. We have never heard him marrying again after Louise died. His daughter Ida never mentioned another wife although he visited her often. The pension was approved but later withdrawn. I think it was a scam.

Notes for MARY ANN YORK:

Notes for LOUISE C. PATTERSON:

Mama (Louise Weir Frasier) says that Louise Patterson lived in Rome, Ga where her family ran a mercantile store. She ran off with her cousin who lived on a plantation outside of Rome. They went over into Alabama and he worked in the mines until he was killed in the mine. They had three girls and one died young. Mama Weir Ida Haynie Weir) told Mama that they also had two boys who died as babies and are buried in Valley Head Alabama.

Louise Patterson was born in Campbell County, Georgia in 1859. She died in 1889 in Clay County, Alabama. The birth and death dates are from the Haynie family bible. She is listed on the 1860 census record as a child of Thomas E. and Sarah Kidd Patterson in Campbell Co, GA. They are still in Campbell County in 1870. In 1880 Louise is listed in Floyd County, Georgia with her three children, her mother, and siblings. The two boys listed as her sons are evidently the two babies who died. Her daughter Mattie is 5 years old and listed on the 1900 census record for Clay County, Alabama with John B. Haynie. Louise had another daughter and son before she married John Haynie. Vory was born in 1880 and John B. Haynie, Jr. was born in 1882.

xi. IDA BEATRICE HAYNIE, b. Feb 18, 1888, Clay Co., AL; d. Jan 2, 1974, Lincoln Co., TN; m. (1) CICERO GIRARD, Mar 15, 1906, Marshall Co., AL; b. Jul 27, 1875; d. Nov 20, 1907, Marshall Co., AL; m. (2) WILLIAM HUGH WEIR, Sep 21, 1909, Marshall Co., AL; b. Feb 25, 1872, Carroll Co, GA; d. Apr 25, 1940, Lincoln Co., TN.

Notes for IDA BEATRICE HAYNIE:

Ida B. Haynie is first mentioned in the 1900 census record of Alabama. She was living with her father John B. Haynie in Foxcreek district of Clay county. She was 12 years old, born in Feb. 1888.

Ida Haynie was only about 15 yrs. old when she and her brother George left her father in Clay County Alabama and went to Marshall Co to live near her sister Mattie who had married and left Clay County. Ida and George rented a small farm. She soon married Cisero Garrard and George married Cisero's sister, Zacky.

In the 1910 Census record of Alabama she is living with her husband, William H. Weir in Marshall Co, Alabama. She is 22 years old, been married less than a year and has had one child. Her daughter, Lillian is listed as 3 years old and the stepdaughter of William Weir.

The Haynie Family Bible states that:

1. Cisero Garrard and Ida Haynie were married March 15, 1906. Lillian Alberta Garrard was born Dec. 30, 1906.

2. Cisero Garrard was born July 27, 1876 and died Nov. 20, 1907.

3. Ida Garrard married Willie Weir Sept. 21, 1909.

4. Ida B. Haynie was born Feb. 18, 1888.

Notes for WILLIAM HUGH WEIR:

William H. Weir was born Frbruary 25, 1872 in Carroll County, Georgia. By 1880 the family had moved to Clebourne County, Alabama where he is shown on the Census as 8 yrs. old. His family is living next door to his uncle John B. Weir.

He is listed on the 1900 Census of Marshall Co Alabama living with his parents. He is 27 years old, born in Feb. 1873 and a widower.

He is listed on the 1910 Census of Marshall Co Alabama as head of household. He has been married less than a year and it is his 3rd marriage. (This is probably a mistake as no one who knew him seemed to know of a third marriage). He did marry Dora Stonicher in Dec. 1897 and she died a few months later in May 1898. In 1910 he is living with his wife Ida B. and stepdaughter Lillian who was 3 years old.

In 1927 or 1928 William H. Weir moved his family to Flintville, Tennessee (Lincoln county) because schools were free. In Alabama every child paid tuition and with a growing family it could be a problem.

He died April 25, 1940 of skin cancer. He is buried at Flintville Cemetary, Flintville, Tennessee.

1910 Marshall Co, AL William H. Weir 38, Ida B. 22, Lillian A. Garrard 3 - step daughter. Been married less than a year - a second for both. Ida has had one child.

1920 Marshall Co, AL William H. Weir 46, Ida 32, Children: Lillian 13 - step daughter, Comer 10, Budord 8, Louise 6, Mary Will 4, Dorthea 2/12.

Notes for AMANDA E. HAYNIE:

Some researchers have Amanda who married G. W. Lackey as the daughter of Gideon, brother of George and uncle of our Amanda.  Research shows that Gideon probably moved directly from SC to MS without a stop in Alabama.  G. W. Lackey lived in Calhoun Co, AL as did our Amanda.  Also their two oldest children were born in Alabama.

Some of the information for Amanda's family with G. W. Lackey comes from Carol Cantrell. The family moved from Calhoun Co, AL to Lee Co, MS between 1871- 1874.

1870 Calhoun Co, AL. George Lackey 24, Amanda 24, Ida 1.

I had received information that Walter Kincannon Lackey was Amanda's son but had no birthdate for him. Now I find that That George and Dollie had a son named Walter in 1907.
